Inexpensive Decorating with White Bedroom Furniture

Bedroom furniture is a necessary part of a person's home furnishing budget, and is made even more important because we spend so much time in the bedroom. In today's tight economy, we all are trying to get the most value out of every dollar and furniture is a huge expense. If you add the fact that most of us change our bedrooms around every few years, trying for a new look, you see that the costs get pretty high.

Here are 4 big reasons why decorating with white bedroom furniture throughout the entire bedroom is a great way to slash costs while maintaining a classy, yet versatile, bedroom style.

1. Less is More

You've all seen the designer bedrooms on the home improvement shows? The fluffy inviting bed, the clean lines, the soothing atmosphere? Well, here's their trick... the quickest way to achieve that look is to keep your bedroom A SINGLE COLOR. A monochromatic background looks less cluttered and more expensive no matter how inexpensively you decorated it. So keep as much of the room and furniture a single color as you possibly can.

2. White is the Most Versatile Color

We all know this, don't we? White goes with EVERYTHING. A big concern when you try to get a new “theme” going in your bedroom makeover is not knowing what color to use. Make it easy... use white! You can't mess that up. No matter what throw pillow you use on your bed, it will NOT clash with white. Any white will work, too... you don't need a glaring white like a piece of copy paper, that would be harsh. Go with an off-white; maybe a couple pieces of antique white bedroom furniture, maybe an eggshell white. The point is, if you stick with the white palette, you can't mess it up. Whew, what a relief, don't you think? You can't mess it up. That makes things so much easier!

3. White Looks Classy for Less Money

So you watch the home improvement shows, and those designer bedrooms I talked about earlier boast about how they achieve their look for only... say... $2,000. Gasp!!! Who has that much money to throw around? Or if you watch the DIY shows, it's only $900. Wow. That is still way too expensive.  The beauty of white bedroom furniture sets is that the look is easy to GET, and then MAINTAIN, with very little money. If you try to achieve a rich, expensive look with a wood furniture set, you need to make sure that furniture is top of the line (because after all, the wood will be visible to everyone) and then you'd better make sure you are EASY on it and you MAINTAIN it; polishing, re-staining, etc. In contrast, you could purchase some inexpensive bedroom pieces and paint it white (antique, eggshell, cottage, take your pick) and it will look great for a long time with very little maintenance! Paint is fantastic for making furniture look fresh and new with very little money spent.

4. Accessorizing is EASY

Every pillow in your house could now be thrown onto your white bed and would not clash. Any scarf that you picked up at a yard sale for a dollar can be draped across your window frame and will coordinate well with your white walls. Did you find a throw rug last Saturday at a second hand shop? Well, put it in the bedroom; it won't clash with your white armoir.

Do you see the advantages here? You barely need to spend any money, with this one furnishing tip. Is your daughter pestering you about redoing her bedroom again? No problem, it's as easy to paint her room as it is to paint yours. Girls white bedroom furniture make a wonderful neutral backdrop for whatever funky colored pillows she wants, whatever posters she wants on her walls, whatever fuzzy throw rugs she wants on her floor. Do you want to have more of an “outdoor” look this year, but don't want to make over your whole room? No problem, get one or two pieces of white wicker bedroom furniture, or even another color wicker and paint it white, and jazz it up with some beach house accessories, and you've redone your room for very little money! The trick is, spend you money ON THE ACCESSORIES, which is much less expensive, than on the furniture. Let the furniture be the backdrop, so that your accessories pop!
